That's all machine specific.  If you had one of those 504MB limit BIOSs (that
Crystal probably rightly says won't work...and the 486 I had in place to test
quit working for HW reasons), yes, it would be a problem if / was anywhere
other than the very front of the drive.  But "modern" computers will generally
support much more.  It isn't a problem I've encountered recently, and even
then, only happened when I did stupid things like 160G drives on 486s, etc.

and I do mean "machine specific" -- not platform specific.
