I stumbled accross your e-mail[0], while setting up a new firewall. I
have the same modem, and I was able to get it to work as umb0:

- - - - - - - - - - %< - - - - - - - - - -

fw0# dmesg | grep umb
umb0 at uhub0 port 5 configuration 1 interface 12 "Sierra Wireless,
Incorporated Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A" rev 3.00/0.06
addr 3

- - - - - - - - - - %< - - - - - - - - - -

The trick was to change the identity as laid out by Daniel Wood[1]:

  AT!USBVID=1199
  AT!USBPID=9079,9078
  AT!USBPRODUCT="Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A"
  AT!PRIID="9904609","002.026","Lenovo-Storm"

I set up the device like mentioned by Daniel Wood in "Basic Setup":

For this to work, I booted a custom Alpine Linux ISO with qmi-utils
installed, called via picocom to /dev/ttyUSB2 and sent the mentioned
commands.

Afterwards I reset the modem:

  qmicli -d /dev/cdc-wdm0 --dms-set-operating-mode=offline
  qmicli -d /dev/cdc-wdm0 --dms-set-operating-mode=reset

If this is not relevant for you anymore, please ignore the noise!
