It is still far easier to self host than a lot of other things. Ever
tried setting up a Matrix server for example?

But sure, making it easier to self host is always a plus, unfortunately
there is not enough support for it anymore. Tools are written to solve
peoples problems, if people are not having issues (because they picked
an alternative solution) no tools are written, and thus no easier way to
set it up is produced.

If more people self hosted, more people would run into annoyances like
this, and would find solutions to it, which would make it easier for
others to get into it.

I am on a few small networks and none of them have a nickserv, this
does bring up security concerns (such as impersonation), but for the
most part people bounce making it more difficult to steal their nick.

Take care,
