I have not yet managed to replicate the issue but a look through my search history reveals that the problem I was seeing with the aq interfaces before was:
/bsd: aq1:rx: rx error (status 37 type a980046) This would appear after some time of running, what was strange to me at the time was that aq1 had nothing attached so the device I did have connected to aq0 I moved to aq1 which prevented that error from happening, but potentially revealed this mbuf consumption on aq0.
