Thinkpad trackpoint issues

Whenever I try to perform any input with the trackpoint or its buttons,
I get the following error in the X console:
pms0: not in sync yet, discarding input
Machine is a Thinkpad T420, running 7.8, no adjustment to X settings.
Persists across multiple window managers, trackpad works fine.
