Dear Antoine, I now have shotwell working satisfactorily after following your advice, but in the process I discovered (the hard way!) that shotwell crashes without certain adwaita fonts packages being installed. This crash only occurs when it is trying to report another error.
Here are the packages having to do with adwaita in 7.9: adwaita-fonts-- adwaita-icon-theme-- adwaita-icon-theme-legacy-- adwaita-qt-- adwaita-qt6-- I didn't know which ones were needed, so I loaded them all and the adaita problem went away. Shotwell then reported the original problem, which I then fixed (max openfiles too small). It seems to me that the needed adwaita packages should be included as part of shotwell's dependencies. It would be easy to overlook this, as the problem doesn't manifest itself until some other problem needs to be reported. It may be that if using Gnome or something similar, these packages might already be loaded, thus hiding the problem. However, I use i3, which is pretty bare bones. Thanks for your help!
