Comment evaluation in pf.conf

Hi guys, just a quick question.
During some toying with pf I noticed something. When making a comment 
like the following:

.....
########################
# pas on re0 from any \           #
#                  to any port 59    #
########################
.....

is it expected behavior that pfctl complains about a space after the 
backslash, DESPITE the line being a comment?
Or is there a good reason for this?
