Just wanted to throw in my US$.02 worth on the media converter issue. At my place of employment a facility design decision was taken a few years ago mandating all fiber buildings. It was pretty obvious they were clueless about commodity h/w so now we have this huge installation of IMC media converters.
We have seen the exact same issues related to auto negotiation with a lot of our hosts. diana
