Thanks everyone for the wonderful feedback! I think my idea of Intel
motherboards being more solid than other brands spawned from the fact
their network cards (em) are more reputable (although I am a bit
confused these days with all of the opensource issues with Intel).

I am more than convinced now that SuperMicro is the best way for me to
go in this situation. Thanks for the Sun suggestions as well, but I'm
a college student has to be financed by a small group of friends so
saving as money along the way doesn't hurt. I know there were cheaper
was to do this such as RAIDframe, however the server should end up
being under a significant load as it will hopefully be used by the
entire campus.

After reading through the replies, I suppose I can fall back on the
Intel I had originally picked, but now I am leaning towards a
SuperMicro PDSME+. If someone has bad experiences with it the Asus
board Didier suggested seems ok too, however I would like to run the
GENERIC.MP kernel if possible.
