I have been running with the defaults (including pass) for well over a year. I also suspect that if the "pass" caused problems you would have heard about it long ago and, knowing how well the devs leap onto bugs, the default pf.conf would have been amended pretty quickly. There must be some other reason for your problem and I cannot see what else you have that may cause it. Perhaps Daniel might guess it if you asked on the pf list and showed your complete pf.conf.
