Forget it. For who can be of interest, i edited the
/usr/share/sendmail/cf/openbsd-localhost.mc and added the following lines:
MASQUERADE_AS(domain.com)dnl
FEATURE(masquerade_envelope)dnl

And then issued a make distribution and restarted sendmail. I've also
configure an alias for root, directing to mail.
