Ok, that's good to know.

However, using udp mounts, I experienced the mount point and terminal lockups that the OP mentioned when the mount did not succeed.

I finally tracked it down to the fact that I was connecting to the non-default ip address of a host with multiple ip addresses without using the -c flag to mount_nfs. I realise that is was my own fault, but I would not expect the lockup situation.
