But (as I mentioned in the message), shutdown makes a very annoying beep. When shutting down the laptop in a hushed boardroom or lecture hall, the beep is unacceptable. And anyway, the shutdown command is overkill, I don't need to notify other users of the shutdown, since I'm the only user.
