Like Darrin suggested try matching Modelines and Modes :

On xorg.conf

Enable only this (comment the rest of the modellines) :
Modeline "1680x1050_60.00" 147.14 1680 1784 1968 2256 1050 1051
1054 1087 -HSync +Vsync

Modify the screen section :

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device "Card0"
        Monitor "Monitor0"
        DefaultDepth 24
        SubSection "Display"
                Depth 24
                Modes "1680x1050_60.00"
        EndSubSection
EndSection
