Yes.  That's the way I installed my Soekris.  Hint: Don't forget to
change "sd" to "wd" in fstab after the install.

They're cheaper than the time you already spent pondering the
question and perfectly adequate if you just want to read/write a
CF (MMC, SD, etc.) card from time to time.

If you already have one, you can use it.  Otherwise they are only
interesting if you want to semi-permanently add a CF drive to the
laptop itself.
