Try this. It might work. My /etc/sysctl.conf has the line machdep.kbdreset=1 # permit console CTRL-ALT-DEL to do a nice halt I find that this along with the above option set in /etc/rc.shutdown is a nice way to shutdown the machine by pressing the magic buttons... -Girish
