Hello all. I've been settings up a serial terminal for my box, and I've run into some issues.

When 'set tty com0' is NOT used...
I can `tip tty00` and talk to the terminal (PuTTY serial on WinXP) just fine, chatting back and forth. Setting up getty on cua00 ('cua00 "/usr/libexec/getty" std.9600 vt220 on secure' in /etc/ttys, `kill -HUP 1`), getty attaches to /dev/cua00, and I can login from the serial terminal. Everything is of course screwed up with no controlling terminal. Setting up getty on tty00 ('tty00 "/usr/libexec/getty" std.9600 vt220 on secure' in /etc/ttys, `kill -HUP 1`), getty attaches to /dev/tty00, but nothing happens on the terminal (tried sending many newlines, ^E, breaks, etc).

When 'set tty com0' is used...
Boot messages galore, and...
Setting up getty on tty00 ('tty00 "/usr/libexec/getty" std.9600 vt220 on secure' in /etc/ttys, `kill -HUP 1`) == happy terminal.

This occurs on both my toy box (amd64 4.6-beta Jun 22, 2009, complete boot below), and an i386 4.5-RELEASE, both GENERIC.

Is this by design (trusted path?)? I saw nothing to imply that in any of the related man pages, and if so it would kinda break the example in the FAQ.

Any thoughts?
