I tried setting inputs.mix_source to each setting above.  Here are the results

# mixerctl inputs.mix_source=dac-0:1    no sound
inputs.mix_source:  -> dac-0:1
# mixerctl inputs.mix_source=mic        yes, very quiet
inputs.mix_source:  -> mic
# mixerctl inputs.mix_source=line-in    yes, very loud
inputs.mix_source:  -> line-in
# mixerctl inputs.mix_source=mic2       no sound
inputs.mix_source:  -> mic2
# mixerctl inputs.mix_source=dac-6:7    no sound
inputs.mix_source:  -> dac-6:7

Their is nothing plugged into the line-in.  Eventually, I need the line-in to 
work.
