hello, that's a noble goal. goodluck :) i think hosting email for your family/neighbors would be the best first step as everyone has an email address, but i'd be kinda wary of giving accounts to neighbors unless i closely know them (spam which might ruin ip reputation, spoofing, etc). i'm thinking maybe you can host a private IRCD/bouncer for them too? but i'm biased and it's not as secure as other protocols even tho it's one of the most minimal and easiest to troubleshoot. -- noodle
