I was aware that in V 3.x, MapInfo had a similar limit of 32k vertices
in a polyline or in a region segment, and this limit was raised by the
creation of new object types around MapInfo 4.5. MITAB supports that
case transparently since version 1.0.

If I understand your email correctly, you are suggesting that a similar
change happened in version 8.0 with respect to the number of sections in
a REGION. To be able to support that case, we'd need a sample TAB
dataset with at least one region of this type and the corresponding
MIF/MID file to find out the new object id and the way it is structured
internally.

If you or someone else on this list can provide that then please submit
a bug in the MITAB bugzilla and attach the sample dataset or provide a
link to it if it's too big.
