Hi Daniel and Despoina,
As she said for "Images" maybe she meant to assign a default Transfer
function for the scalars of an image.

First of all: please use the mailing list for questions. This way other
people will also profit (?) from solutions.

Now I guess you speak of vtkPolyData surfaces? Then you will have to
create a lookup table and add a mitk::LookupTableProperty to the
DataTreeNode objects that holds your data object. 

See Steffen Oeltzes mail from March 17th for a short piece of code that
does this.
