Hi Demet,
this has been on my want-to-do list for extending our tutorials for a while
(see [1]), but I do not know how soon I will be able to actually write that
tutorial.
In the meantime one example of this is the DiffusionImaging module, where
several custom readers are registered. The mitkConnectomicsNetworkReader for
example is a reader for a custom xml based file type [2]. Remember to add the
reader to the module activator so it is actually created and thus registers
itself [3]. By default the readers while only be available once the module
loads, so you might want to create a separate IO module which autoloads with
e.g. MitkCore so it is always available (this is how it is done with the
DiffusionIO Module [4]).
