I just submitted the code to update MITK master with Sofa v16.12, the
Phabricator task can be found here : https://phabricator.mitk.org/T23359 .
It was a joint work with Camille Krewcun, as he was interested in such
work, and it has been discussed here :

The code could be updated to retrieve an archive of Sofa from your server
instead of Github. For our use-case and demonstration purpose, the attached
patch use Github.
This contribution will allow MITK users to update their code to newer
versions of Sofa, as the directory layout of the library changed a lot
between current bundled version and more recent version.
Sofa v15.03 already had a layout identical to the current version.
