we will definitely upgrade to ITK 5 in the next months but we cannot guarantee a fixed date yet. The VTK upgrade shouldn't be much work but we resp. contributors noticed some bugs in VTK that affect MITK's rendering. Currently we patch VTK in our build script but the patches were also contributed to VTK so we will wait until they are included in the next VTK minor update. BTW if you're developing with v2018.04.2 you may want to switch to the releases/2018-04 branch (available at https://phabricator.mitk.org/source/mitk.git)<https://phabricator.mitk.org/source/mitk.git>? which is a branch based on that release with quite some fixes for recent tool releases like CMake, GCC, Clang, Visual Studio, macOS, you name it.
