Woohoo! After 16 months of development, Mixxx 1.6.0 has finally been released.
The official release announcement is available on the blog: http://mixxxblog.blogspot.com/ Download it from our newly redesigned site: http://www.mixxx.org Also, digg us! - http://digg.com/software/Mixxx_Open_Source_DJ_Software I want to give a big thanks to all of our developers and contributors. I've been really impressed with everything you guys have done, especially the way people have come out of the woodwork to give us patches. :) If you take a look at the contacts page on the site, you'll see the giant list of credits - many, many people have helped make this release happen. I'd like to write up a post-mortem on 1.6.0 for you everyone sometime, but for now I'll just mention a few thoughts. First, the port to Qt 4 was completely necessary, but it took a lot of energy. I don't think we'll ever have another development cycle this long again. Second, there were times when I thought we'd never figure out the random crashing/deadlock problems we had throughout the development cycle. But one by one, we eventually figured them all out with the help of the odd miracle patch here and there. Most of these random crashing problems turned out to be deeper problems inside Mixxx that weren't necessarily created by us current developers. Instead, they were problems that only started rearing their ugly heads once we ported to Qt 4 and started getting more testers/users. Fixing these problems took a lot of time away from developing new features, but just like porting to Qt 4, this is something we only had to do once. Future development shouldn't be hindered by random stability issues if we stay vigilant and keep trunk stable. Anyways, if anyone's in/near Toronto, come hang out with us at Linuxcaffe on Friday (see Garth's previous email)! (and don't forget to digg that link) :) Thanks, and happy mixxxing, Albert ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ Mixxx-devel mailing list Mixxx-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/mixxx-devel
