Hey Mixxx,
For showing and allowing mapping of invisible controls, an approach I
suggested was to include a "show more" button essentially a pullout menu
like little lower right bottom triangle as we have seen before. Turns out
this isn't good.
After speaking to a few of my friends who are interaction designers and UX
people, the consensus about representing "Hidden" (not available through
UI) controls was to not represent them at all. The reasons they stated were
convincing:
1.Don't play around with the skin and let users think these controls lie
some where.
2. The hidden controls for skins were namely hotcues 5-36 and library and
playlist controls (except in minimalist skins)
3. Extends the learning curve for users, the whole point of point-n-click
is to have no learning curve for users at all.
4. Rather some sign of "#controls mapped/total #controls" should be
displayed in the learning UI and mapped controls in dropdown must be shaded
too.
So rather how about I allow mapping of these controls via the dropdowns and
work on beautifying the dropdowns and instead of presenting a small micro
dialog, integrate them in the MIDI pref window? I needed to know what you
guys think about this as the app date is fast approaching. Here is my
application, do read and
refine.<http://google-melange.appspot.com/gsoc/proposal/review/google/gsoc2012/shetyeakash/1>
Good
day to you.
Thank you,
Akash. Shetye
