I've been lurking on the list for a while.
I would like --nay, love to help with a new midi mapping system/process.
currently tracking down the midi info via --mididebug is cumbersome at best.
I'll have to look at your proposal for more info, Akash.
I imagine you're thinking of something like Live's midi map mode.
If the point-click mapping proves to be too difficult to implement, a
stop gap could be to implement some process that is similar to the midi
wizard except that it is attached to the add button in the midi
preferences that only listens for a noteon/off combination, cc, etc. and
does mapping in a one-off type manner.
It would make the map creation process a little more streamlined at least.
Unfortunately, the sampling via loop markers is probably beyond me.
Sounds handy though.
My only concern about live sampling would be what happens to the samples
as they're created. Are they created in a separate folder in your
<librarypath>/Mixxx/LiveSamples or /tmp? How easy would it be to manage
all of the files that are created? How about being able to save them for
later use?
I like the idea of mixxx being utilized outside of the paradigm of being
a two channel mixer. I have a laptop running hydrogen in parallel to
mixxx for "making beats" and triggering samples on the fly. I use this
instead of the built-in sample decks because I felt I could more easily
configure (again MIDI conf is cumbersome) it to behave like an mpc (mute
groups, etc.)
Good ideas, and I'd like to see them come to fruition.

P.S. A delay/echo effect... That will be the key.
