What is the advantage of not knowing what kind of object you are working with? I'm a java developer (and not a mixxx developer ;) and one of the greatest things in java was the introduction of typed lists and generics. Of course the IDE does help you when hovering an object or with code completion. But I believe coding goes much faster if you know the type - and what you can do with it.
