Following on from Be's message (apologies I cannot reply directly), I can
confirm that the spam situation is reasonably excessive at the moment. To
hit you with some stats, I (pi r squared) have deleted 55 spam posts in
just the last week; in the same time frame, we have had about 65 new
members sign up to the forums, of which fewer than ten have posted anything
non-spam.

I do check the forums at least once a day and I do vape it as soon as I
come across it, but it does sit there for a while making the forums look
untidy.

I guess two quick fix options would be:

1) new users' posts are quarantined. I feel that I check the boards
regularly enough that this could be a feasible option, at least until the
spam attack dies down - posts would not be held for more than a day before
being authorised.

2) another moderator. I think I am largely the only active moderator at the
moment, which usually is plenty enough but we might be able to address the
problem more quickly with another pair of hands.

Grateful to hear people's thoughts.

(Never used one of these lists before so here's hoping I've got this
right...!)

Aaron.
