Which recording command do you use ? You should not use a too high
qality around 30-40. 
My command for the buz lookes like that:
> lavrec -f a -i P -d 1 -q 41 -s -l 70 -R l -U test03.avi

You will have to change that command for NTSC.

Seems that you are not root when you record. If you record as root those
warning ...Real-time scheduling... should disappear. This can improve
the reliability of recording. 

Which sound card do you use ?
lavrec reports Audio errors, that should not happen.
