Hello,
I'm speccing a new system for which mpeg2enc will be one of the primary
consumers of CPU cycles, so I thought I'd ask for opinions from the
masters.
My first question is just whether there are any strong reasons to get
AMD vs. Intel CPUs? I'll probably be getting a dual-CPU system if
that has a bearing on this question.
Also, are there any motherboards that should be avoided? Any MB features
that I should try to make sure to get?
And finally, while browsing for some A/V equipment, I came across a
JVC switcher that has IEEE-1394 built right in. I was going to get
an ADVC-100 for this system, but it looks like the switcher may be
sufficient (since I wanted to get a switcher anyway). The model
number is JVC JX-S777, and it's only about $300 more than the
ADVC-100 -- I say only, because someone else is paying for it, of
course.
I also found what appears to be a nice keyboard with a jog/shuttle
wheel built right in, which hopefully will interface with Kino.
That can be found at:
www.usb-ware.com/dv-keyboard-with-jog-shuttle.htm
I'll also take suggestions for other must-have features of a system
for capturing and non-linear-editing of video material.
Thanks,
Bill
