There is a 2GB limit with the AVI format unless the OpenDML
extensions are used and as far as I know the lav* tools are
not OpenDML aware at this time.

The limitation is not one of large file support but rather of
the AVI format.
From the yuv2lav manpage:
-o output-file
This (compulsorary) option sets the name of the
file that yuv2lav will write its output to. If the
output file contains a % (e.g. file%02d.avi), the
output will be written to multiple files in case
this is necessary (file00.avi, file01.avi and so
on).
Use something like
... | yuv2lav -o 'outfile%0d.avi'
and yuv2lav will create multiple files each slightly less than
2GB.
