Ok, here's one real world example of the difference between GOP size 18 and GOP size 54. The captured video is 38824 mjpeg frames or about 21.5905 minutes long. The only difference between these two file sizes was changing -G 54 to -G 18. GOP 54 (-G 54) 435,188,015 bytes of m2v data GOP 18 (-G 18) 447,716,340 bytes of m2v data I calcualte that to be a 2.798% reduction in the size of the file. Not enormous percentage wise, but still, a small reduction that if one's playback unit handles it, is almost "free". I say "free" because I did not have to change quantization levels nor throw away some high frequency info to achieve the reduction. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email sponsored by: ApacheCon 2003, 16-19 November in Las Vegas.
