I get the errors fromI'll answer this myself. It is not necessary to --force this as the libs are part of a gstreamer plugin (that I don't even know what is at the moment), so I removed the gstreamer-blah plugin and everything installed ok.
rpm -U mjpegtools-1.6.2-1.i386.rpm
file /usr/lib/liblavfile-1.6.so.0 from install of mjpegtools-1.6.2-1 conflicts with file from package libmjpegtools1.6-1.6.1-9mdk

It is safe to rpm --force this ?

What's more, yes, now it works!!!. I built the dvd without problems.
It is amazing what a little difference in the third digit of the version number can make. I've noticed another difference between 1.6.1 and 1.6.2 in mplex. 1.6.2 does not split output files by default and creates instead a big one (not bad for me).
