Try the SB-Life the card works very reliable in read mode (-U). 

BTW: Usually the onboard sound cards have a rather poor quality compared
to "special" sound card. If you have two sound cards you can record and
play back at the same time, which might also be interresting, for longer
recording sessions.

How could S-Video also carry the audio ? Does not work, look here for

S-Video has much better qaulity that a composite cable.

record from the card.

That lavrec has troubles stopping the card's but thats usually not a
problem.
