My source is actually PES. That is, the audio and video PIDs
demultiplexed from the TS into a single file. I have reminded myself
of the details of MPEG over the weekend; it's been a few years since
I worked with it in detail.

I realise now that mplex takes ES, not PES, so must assume that
the input streams contain no missing AUs, as it needs
to count AUs to assign the DTS and PTS to the multiplexed output.

The MythTV suggested shell script I am using is therefore very
optimistic; any transmission errors and it won't work.

This is why you suggested Project X. It will produce an ES from
a TS, and fill in any 'holes' with silence.

My German is not great, so using the tool might present a problem!
Also, I need an automatic means to do this, rather than an interactive
tool. Does ProjectX have a command line mode?
