Uh, not surprising. A tidy system is a happy system - a bit of
cleanup avoids problems.

./autogen.sh
./configure
make
make install
make clean
No difficulty here but then I do a make clean and re-run autogen.sh
often - and then tidy up after installing. Only takes a minute or
two but does avoid problem(s).
Eventually when a release is make all the auto stuff will be
pregenerated - but the cvs version is a development environment.
