pkg-config --modversion mjpegtools
1.7.0
If the tools are installed but no pkgconfig file is found then it's
likely to be the old version.
Alternatively mplex's help option output can be used:
mplex -h
mjpegtools mplex-2 version 1.7.0 (2.2.3)
Usage: mplex [params] -o <output filename pattern> <input file>...
> mjpegtools (ppmtoy4m is what I need) to output their current version
Probably best to use pnmtoy4m - and if that exists you're using 1.7.x
or newer anyhow and don't need to bother checking the version :)
