Hello,

There areally weren't any "bad" 911's, but there are
a few years more desireable than others. A 78 is a
typical 911, the first year for the 930 (turbo 911), a
few years into the galvanized metal (pre 76's were
very rust prone) they also had some problems with the
2.7L motor, generally considered one of the motors to
avoid.(namely tesioner guides, and some oiling
problems)

The price seems too low, actually, and if the guy
knows 911's at all, he'll probably know that. Whay is
he asking so little? I would certainly run the old
Magnet test to check for bodywork, and do a
compression check to insure all is good with the
world.

Many 911 owners will attest to the fact that there
are no repairs under $100.
Keep your eyes peeled for overspray, (a sure sign of
bodywork) ,and ask the owner for service records.

Most of all, who rebuilt the motor? these aren't your
typical VW boxer motor- these are very complex pieces
of machinery. 6 Cylinder heads, 2 cams, a very
completex oiling system etc, lends itself to be
rebuilt by an experienced professional who knows the
secrets these motors are full of.
Don't get me wrong, these are wonderful cars, and
nothing drives quite like it, truly a blast for the
senses.

Hope that helps, and if you have any other
questions, I would be glad to answer them to the best
of my ability.

    Percy.
