There are actually 4 versions of the VR6. The three you mentioned and the
new 24v version. 204hp, forget the torque figure. In Europe, the VR6 is
now known as the V6 for marketing reasons.

The 2.9L VR6 was originally available on the Corrado. I wish I could
remember this stuff, but I think it was a larger bore that brought it to
that extra .1. 190 hp sounds right. Yeah; I'm not a huge fan of the A3s,
but if I were to have one it would have been the A3 Synchro Golf. Rumor had
it that there was one running around Queens, NY a few years back.
Supposedly the son of a German diplomat. As my source told it, the kid
loved raggin' on us poor American slobs who couldn't get one.

Still, the Bora/Golf 24v V6 4-motion is a better car in almost every way.

Subject: stock 190bhp 2.9vr6 (was final word Eurovans)

Well, the thread goes on and you cant miss it,
while on VR6 topic, hm.. I did not find any vr6
in europe which is 140bhp. But what I found while
was looking if there is A3 synchros (well there was
thread abou this on paralel list):
A3 Golf Variant VR6 Synchro. Well, this thing
has stock 190bhp 2.9l vr6. But now i dont have
        engine code handy now...

So it comes out there are three VR6 versions:
        140bhp 170bhp and 190bhp. Any more?

And about Eurovans (I guess Caravelles in europe),
these are moving ok even with 1.9Diesel many of
them are having. Dont know about top speed but in
        city they move quite quick.

        Later,
        -Nils
        dont have vr6 yet.
