well, like many things, it depends. it depends on the exhaust that you are transplanting. if it is stock off of a gti, you will need a new muffler/tailpipe, or you will need to modify the existing muffler. (weld on a longer tailpipe, or something like that) my buddy was going to put my old exhaust (off my 92 gti) on his g/f's 86 jetta, and decided not to for this very reason. if you are transplanting an aftermarkt exhaust, you will only need a new tailpipe.
