I'm sure this question has been posed on other lists, and some will say
that as this topic is not 16v related, it doesn't belong on this list.
Well, tough. :) Over the past few years, I have met some of the
smartest, most knowledgeable people about veedubs on this list, and I
wanna hear what everyone has to say.
So? In a few months, we'll be seeing the 1.8T 20v in the VW lineup,
along with the slightly revamped VR6. Now, the turbo will be coming
with a healthy 150hp. The VR6 will have 174hp/181 ftlb. Obviously in
stock form, the VR6 is the choice for performance. But what about when
some aftermarket parts are added?
Neuspeed now has that kit, that supposedly pushes the 1.8T's numbers up
to around 240hp (with mainly a chip/turbo). Better yet, AWE's kit with
the Garrett computer is dyno-proven at 238hp (or something like that).
So it is very possible and easy to add another 90hp to the 1.8T. With
some head work, and some cams (Schrick has a set), I'm sure 270hp is not
too far out of reach. In order to reach 270hp on a VR6, just about
every naturally aspirated mod known to man needs to be done, or just a
turbo/supercharger can be bolted up (read: pricey).
And with 4Motion just around the corner, who says that 270hp wouldn't
sound nice? Can you say M3-eater? These are just some ideas I've been
throwing around in my head, I guess most of it just wishfull thinking.
Ideas/Comments?
