Ok - since the tire thread has come up again....

Ive got an 1985 "A2" 2 door Golf.
Its got OEM type 175/70R13's right now.

Its a city car - so maximum stealth is desired.
My thought was to get steel wheels - they dont attact
attention. Id even go as far as to spray WD 40 and
various spray paints (black/rust brown) on them so that
they'd look like crap.

Im figuring I can get steel wheels (at least 14") really
cheap from a pick and pull - esp since they dont have
to match in design. (Id matcht he front pair though)

But Im also considering the "brembo" Corrado front
brakes - hence 15" wheels required.
These I can get from TireRack for cheap - as "snow tire"
rims.

A 185/55R15 appears to be close in height (23" vs 22.7")
and only slightly wider....

Im guessing with "stock" height springs that I wont
have a rubbing problem even under full compression
in turns?

Also - given the rally car conditions
I live in the country off a gravel/dirt road, GF lives
in Centery City Philly... Id want a relatively endurable ride.

Im currently installing Bilsten HDs.

I got the rears in during the warm spell last week.
Techtonics is shipping the front strut tools and
I can borrow a spring compressor from a mech friend.
(nice OTC unit).

BTW - the rear Bilstien HDs have the spring
perch located via a C clip located in a groove
in the shock body.

With a pair of "parallel" jointed C-clip pliers - it appears
you can adjust the ride height in rear about 3/4" up
or down rather easily...
