The front subframe holds the back-half of the engine/trans in place so
removing it is a real PITA.  It also holds the lower control arms which act
as positioners for the front struts.  In other words, what you're trying to
do essentially involves disassembling the entire front half of the car - not
exactly my idea of fun.
