Renzo,

Your problem is a wear & tear issue that was probably exascerbated by the 
rebuild - had that
happen to me once upon a time whilst driving in Washington, DC.  Manually set 
the shifter in 3rd
gear and faked it all the way home.  The only problem is that you'll now have 
to drop the entire
shifter box as well.
