Hello,

Here's a kind of techie-weenie question for you 2.0 gurus!

The 90 GLI I have now has 2 throttle microswitches (m/s), one for
idle and one for full throttle. Both are mounted on top of the throttle body
(t/b) assembly. You can hear an audible "click" when they are engaged. The
91 we're buying (picking up this weekend) has the m/s on the bottom of the
t/b. I can only hear a click for the idle switch. The Bentley manual says
there were several iterations of the Motronic injection, and "some EARLY
2.0L 9A motors may only have a single idle m/s" (emphasis mine). Now, my 90
has 2 m/s, and the 91 has 1 m/s. Sounds like the opposite of the Bentley
manual. What gives? Are the "dual m/s" motors more desireable due to the
full throttle enrichment? Or does the computer sense "full throttle" some
other way on "single m/s" systems and enrich the mixture anyway? The manual
was NOT helpful with this. Or, is it possible I have 2 m/s and the full
throttle one isn't "clicking"? It's impossible to see underneath the t/b
without removing it. Would this affect the computer chips, i.e. would a
single m/s brain box require a different chip than a dual m/s system?

Thanks in advance for any info!
