I hope that you mean you spun the car in the snow with the Dunlop's. In the
hot and dry they're awesome. If you spun them in the summer, you were over
the limit. I've had D40 M2s for the last two years. I've probably got one
more summer on them. I have them in 195/50 15", and switch them for the
same size Continental Touring Contacts in the winter. I live in NJ and made
the big mistake of waiting too long to change over. Last Thursday, the D40s
made things very dangerous on our roads. It was my fault, though, these
tires are not meant for the snow.
Ugly tread? I don't know what you're talking about. I was looking at them
two nights ago, when I belatedly swapped them. A classic pattern.

I changed from RE71's to A509's. A509's are well priced, good rain
tires,
acceptable snow (few inches) tires, no squealing even in over 40C
heat,
nice-looking tread IMO, lasted me two years so far with agressive
driving.
Problems: RE71's had more dry grip when they were worn but A509
breaks
traction more smoothly. Try those A520's if they're not too
expensive.
Apparently good tire for the money and nice tread.
