Most likely the bolt for the crank pulley was removed at some time, and not properly retorqued down. The key on the pulley face has probably worn away, and the pulley is now moving slightly on the crank nose. Be thankful you haven't bent any valves. However, you may be in for a nasty surprise when you remove the pulley, as the key way in tghe crank nose will probably be damaged, too. If it is *really* hammered, you are a candidate for crank replacement. Or if you feel risky, you can pin the pully to the crank at TDC with some dowels. Use LOTS of red Loctite, too.
<< if anyone has ANY thoughts on the matter, please shout em out. im really at a standstill and dont know what the next step is. i could probably swap in the other 2.0 block i have lying around my garage, but i really dont feel like spending an afternoon doing something that i dont need to do. (besides, that block is 200 miles away) >> Regards, Todd AWE Tuning 215-753-8203 Orderline 888-565-2257 http://www.awe-tuning.com _____________ List Sponsor: http://www.netsville.com To remove yourself from this list, send mail to [email protected] with 'unsubscribe a2_16v' in the body of your message See us on the web at http://www.a2-16v.com Visit the 16V Homepage at http://www.gti16v.org
