I agree with that. People in Chicago love the AWD for the bad weather.
Well, there have been less than a dozen days out of this year that I was
caught in snow, or stayed at home because of inclement weather.

I'll save my money and enjoy my GLi on the 98% of dry days.

I don't know if I mentioned this to this list. A couple of weeks ago now I
saw a Land rover discovery on a flatbed towtruck heading in the opposite
direction. The Disco's roof was collapsed to the tops of the doors in the
rear seats and cargo area. That left a permanent image in my head. I see
two or three a day with people driving them thinking they are all safe in
their monster truck.

After that, I had a discussion with one of my coworkers who is also a part
time firefighter\paramedic. He sees plenty of SUV rollover accidents. With
the exception of a couple models, most do very poorly, including the Lexus
and MB. He told me the Toyota 4 runner does well in a rollover, but poorly
with side impact.

I would much rather be able to avoid an
: accident in the first place, than get by saved by completely crushing
: the poor guy in the smaller car.
:
: I drive much slower when behind the wheel of my girlfriend's
: Pathfinder, but I still feel much safer in my GTI.
