The article was really about Hondas, so they couldn't have a properly tuned
VAG car in there. That car, done by a REAL(read:NOT Neuspeed) tuner would
have destroyed all of those Hondas. And we couldn't have a VW beating up on
a Honda, now could we? It would be bad PR, and bad for ratings. And this
goes back to my whole theory on the VW/Honda battle. Bring me a 1991 Honda
sedan with only an exhaust that will take my Jetta in any performance
measurement, is as inexpensive to modify, and will hold together after 200K
miles. Or one that will do any one of those three things. Then I will be
impressed. Problem is, we are running 16Vs agains cars with all of these
computer controlled systems, variable valve timing, etc, and it's apples to
oranges. Granted, in stock form, any GTI 16V(properly tuned) will destroy
any Civic coupe except for the Si. Even the EX VTEC(Very Timed Economy Car).
And a GTI VR6 or a Corrado will blow their doors off, too. But comparing
either of those is apples to oranges, too. Blown 4, or 6 cylinders. IMHO,
the VR6 is a luxury car engine. It fit well in the Passat. It should have
stayed there. The Corrado G60 was more of a pure sports car than a VR6 could
ever hope to be. Funny how the only VW that Hondaboys fear is the Corrado.
Most of them have never had a run-in with a 1.8T Beetle. I can't wait for
the 1.8T 4Motion Jetta. Which is coming soon, BTW. The Passat V6 4Motion is
already here. Read: cheaper A4Q.

Disclaimer: I do not like VR6s. In fact, I think that all small
VWs(everything but the Eurovan and Passat) should have proper 4-cylinders.
But all of the "small" VWs sold also be smaller. But look at an E30
M3...190hp from a NA 4-cylinder. But hey, you want to slap a turbo onto a
1.8T, go right ahead. Works for me. Better than a VR6, that's for sure.
Costs less off the floor, less expensive to insure, easier and cheaper to
tune, and gets better gas mileage. You can do the chip and turbo upgrade to
a 1.8T for less than the difference in sticker price between a 1.8T and a V6
Passat(which I know is the 24V Audi engine). Oh, and the VR6 Eurovans suck,
too. Give me a 5-cylinder, 5-speed EV anyday.

PS - the 16Vs are out and about here in DC. Today I saw 6 GTI 16Vs, two of
them in that dark green color. The GLIs were out too. 7, yes 7 GLIs today.
All but one were 2.0Ls. 2 Red ones...who was it that liked them in red?...2
in the light green mist color that I absolutely love, and 3 black ones. I
was loving it.
